Education and Experience

Many experiences and aspects of my life influence my current work with clients. My upbringing in Southeast Alaska fostered a deep connection to nature and the wisdom of natural cycles. My years spent as a birth worker/doula deepened my honor and respect for working with those in the most raw, vulnerable moments of life. My own journey into parenthood has broken me open and built me up more times than I can count. The dance with my own identities has propelled me into states of openly frolicking as well as hesitantly hiding. All of these experiences have allowed me to cultivate a deep humility essential to this work and I bring this perspective in to my work with you.

My formal training and education in mental health began with the study of the social sciences at University of Alaska Southeast. I then took a deep dive into a master’s program in Marriage, Couple, and Family Therapy at Portland State University. Postgrad, I spent 3 years practicing at a perinatal-focused therapy group practice that supported me in gaining specialized knowledge, training and in-depth experience. Today, I own and operate Half Moon Healing. This allows me to tap into knowledge, training, and intuition in working with those in the midst of the very raw, exciting, and challenging periods of life.

Approach to Counseling

My work as a fellow human and a counselor has led me to the belief that within every human lives an intrinsic energy that moves us toward health, healing, and wholeness. Nobody wants to do worse in life! This energy is what moves us into places of healing to create opportunities for resolving grief, increasing self-understanding, acceptance, grounding, alignment, etc.

I do not see it as my job to reveal and offer generic directions to increase your quality of life, but rather to work to understand you deeply, see the uniqueness that you bring to this world, and walk alongside you as you unearth many of your own answers and connect with your inner wisdom.

My approach is integrative, meaning that I work within multiple counseling frameworks. The direction we take in our sessions really depends on you, and what approach will best serve you at that time. I am an IFS therapist (Level 2 trained) and use this model in most of my sessions and also implement Feminist Theory, Psychodynamic influences, mindfulness based practices, Narrative Therapy, and art/experiential therapies.
