Emily Carraux, LMHC

she/her
Approach to Counseling

Simply put, being human is hard. When we experience loneliness, depression, fear, or disconnection, our relationships to others and to our true selves can become closed off, leaving us feeling isolated and in pain. In those moments of hardship there is immense power and courage in reaching out.

I believe that therapy is a collaborative, dynamic relationship wherein you are the expert of your experience and I am a support to guide deeper understanding into what is and isn't working in your journey. I utilize evidence based, mindfulness, and holistic approaches to

working with clients, and believe in tailoring services based on each client’s unique goals and needs.

While I draw from various theoretical orientations (including Acceptance and Commitment therapy, CBT, and DBT), what matters more is understanding what those different modalities can do for you. Therapy can be a space for skill building, increasing tolerance for uncomfortable emotions or discomfort in general, or practicing communication skills to navigate conflict. This space can also be used to explore values and how your life is lining up with those values, or missing the mark. We can use counseling to address unhelpful thought patterns and critically examine where those thoughts are and aren’t serving you. Finally, therapy can be a safe haven to process past experiences that have caused harm, address relationships that are in crisis, and find a way to reconcile loss.

As a person who identifies as queer herself, I am strongly committed to providing a safe, non-judgmental, and affirming space for all folks in the LGTBQIA+ community. Additional areas of focus include complex and developmental trauma, life transitions and identity exploration, and relationship challenges.

No matter who you are, in our work together, I will meet you with unconditional acceptance, compassion, and a healthy dose of humor and authenticity. Ultimately, I strive to support each person in achieving a more joyful life.
